X-Ray Diffraction by NaCl

چکیده

Abstract: Previous studies have shown that X-rays are produced by electrically accelerating electrons produced by thermionic emission from a hot filament. The emitted electrons are then directed toward a crystal via collimator to study crystal properties. When the target material of the X-ray tube is bombarded with electrons accelerated from the cathode filament, two types of X-ray spectra are produced the continuous spectra and the characteristic spectra of the target material or the crystal. In this study, we confirm the characteristic spectra of NaCl crystal and compare it with the published values. The experimental value of spacing d, between the planes of atoms is 0 .281 nm which is consistent with the current national institute of science and technology (NIST) value of 0.282 nm. Moreover, this study confirms that X-rays from the crystal are emitted only in directions θ that obey the Bragg equation.
